21 May 2026 - What Happens If It Rains on Your Summer Party?

Planning an outdoor party in the UK always comes with one question hanging in the air: what happens if it rains? The good news is that a little drizzle does not have to bring your event to a standstill. With the right setup, sensible precautions and a flexible approach, many parties can still bounce along perfectly well.

At JumpAbouts Bouncy Castles and Soft Play Hire, we know British weather can change quickly, especially during spring and summer. That is why many of our bouncy castles are designed with built-in shower covers and are suitable for light rainfall, helping to keep the fun going even if the clouds decide to join the party.

Light Rain? The Party Can Still Go Ahead

A short shower does not automatically mean your event is ruined. Many of our inflatables include shower covers that help provide protection from light rainfall while keeping the bounce area usable.

In fact, some of the best parties are the ones where everyone simply carries on regardless. Once the music is playing and the bouncy castle is inflated, most children are far more interested in having fun than checking the weather forecast.

It is safe to say that a little rain rarely dampens the mood for long.

What Should You Do During Light Rain?

If there is light rainfall during your hire, there are a few simple steps that help keep everything safe and running smoothly:

  • Keep the inflatable fully inflated during light rain
  • Ensure the extension lead connection is covered with a plastic bag
  • Never cover the blower vents
  • Dry surfaces with towels if needed

These simple precautions help the inflatable continue operating safely while the weather passes through.

What Happens During Heavy Rain?

Heavy rainfall is a different story, and safety always comes first. If there is a significant downpour during your event, the inflatable should be switched off at the mains temporarily until conditions improve.

During heavy rain:

  • Switch the inflatable off at the mains
  • Cover the extension lead connection with a plastic bag
  • Wait for the rain to pass
  • Switch the inflatable back on afterwards so it can dry naturally
  • Use towels where necessary to remove excess water

If you are ever unsure about conditions during your hire, our team is always happy to advise further.

What About Strong Winds?

While light rain is often manageable, strong winds are taken much more seriously. Safety regulations prevent inflatables from operating in unsuitable wind conditions, which is why we closely monitor forecasts where necessary.

If strong winds or severe weather are forecast on the morning of your event, we will always prioritise safety and discuss the best option with you.

Understanding Rain Cancellations

We understand that weather concerns can make party planning stressful, which is why we try to keep our cancellation policy fair and practical.

If it is actively raining on the morning of your hire, you can contact us before the delivery driver arrives to cancel your booking. In this situation, you will only lose the holding deposit and will not be responsible for the remaining balance.

However, if it is not raining at the time and you choose to cancel because rain is forecast later in the day, the full hire amount remains payable.

This approach allows us to prepare fairly for bookings while still offering flexibility when the weather genuinely prevents the hire from going ahead.

Indoor Backup Plans Can Save the Day

Many customers choose to book halls or indoor venues as a backup option, especially during unpredictable weather periods. Compact inflatables and soft play setups work particularly well indoors and help keep the party running smoothly whatever happens outside.

It is always worth checking ceiling height and available floor space before booking an indoor venue for inflatable hire.

The Weather May Change, But the Fun Does Not Have To

A bit of rain does not have to wash your plans away. With sensible precautions, flexible thinking and the right inflatable setup, many outdoor parties can continue without major disruption.

British weather may keep everyone guessing, but a well-planned party can still land on its feet, even if the garden gets a few extra puddles along the way.

If you are planning an event and have questions about weather conditions, indoor alternatives or suitable inflatables, contact JumpAbouts today. We are always happy to help you plan with confidence, rain or shine.
